SEC trying to poach AC?

Ruhle indicates that there are SEC teams trying to interfere with AC. QBs that can run and pass are now the gold standard in college football. Everyone wants one. Only if you have an elite OL can you win consistently with a drop back passer.

With the Wild West of NIL money, combined with very lax or no oversight on contacting or poaching, I predict that we will even see more of a “Shuffling $hit Show” in college football. Definitely have to be willing to up the ante to keep AC. Big money (which a handful of schools can shell out) and interference, will result in power resting in the select few going forward for years. My how times have changed! It used to be where the big money donors would give the customary “folded $50 bill handshake” to the recruits. Now it is the other way around, the recruits now have managers and the “handshake” now turns into a 6-7 figure number.

The Congress needs to pass that bill limiting NIL etcc...of course thats a bit much to expect
Trust me, the involvement of politicians would only make a bad situation worse.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, these "Wild, Wild West" days will continue until 2030 when TV contracts get renegotiated and the B1G and SEC breakaway from the feckless NCAA and incorporate the same rules and restrictions the NFL has.

Say what you will about "the NFL-ization of college football," fiscally responsible rules and uniform regulations are the only way to save the sport.

Until this tampering stuff on AC10 came up - I assumed he was done after this season. Under the 5-5 rule he's got another season to play. I hope it is in Lincoln but realize he probably will be able to name his price.....not sure that fits our NIL budget.
I would guess it doesn't.

But it would seem to me that one of our bigtime donors would see the value of a one-time special donation to throw in the dollars beyond what our current NIL budget for 2027 is slated to be in order to keep Colandrea in Husker Red.

Donors come out of the damn woodwork if it's big dollars to get rid of a coach, this would be an opportunity to use it productively by fueling our forward momentum. It would allow Trae Taylor a valuable year to learn from a talented veteran before being thrown to the B1G wolves.

I would suspect Kentucky, but they've already stolen a QB from us and he's starting for them.

Several SEC powers will need to replace a QB after this season. How much will it take to get AC to leave Lincoln? $4M? $5M? Let the bidding begin.

He does have an issue with height that might make him less attractive on the open market. But I think if he wants to leave, he will have options.

One more thought: if tampering rules aren't enforced, why do they appear on the books in the first place?

then make it a real NFL college player style. Sign a player to a contract. Offer incentives for performance. And so on. So no other teams can poach.

The problem is these "feelers" is that they always come from people not associated with the program so the school can claim official deniability.

SEC schools have a lot of experience with this approach--going back to the pre-NIL days.

"I don't think that's a good narrative for us to have out there that he doesn't have enough support," Rhule said. "I don't think that's good for our players. And not good because he's already got SEC schools calling him. I don't want Nebraska people to start saying that, because that's happened before here. We don't need that now here."

I don't quite get what Rhule is saying here. (Which happens a lot for me.) Can someone smarter than me (virtually anyone here) explain what this means?

I'll try....
Let's say it's 1969 and we're at the drag races, 1/4 mile.
I'm driving a stock 69 Camaro RS and over the summer I've raced 12 times.
The races against 6 cylinder Ramblers, Valiants and Fiats, go as expected and I win easy. Up against a 426 Hemi Chargers, despite their carburation problems I lose. In the past, when I've gone up against Mustangs with 289 V-8s, I've lost. While on paper I should be beating the Mustangs and occasionally catching the Hemis when they aren't running right, I never do. My losses involve poor reaction time, Poor traction off the line, and inexplicable coasting near the end of the race.
I don't see the problem as being with my driving, I just need you to upgrade my car.
This analogy is used to explain why Rhule is indirectly asking for more money for NIL.

Totally 100% understood where this was going....lol

I'm no mechanic like PD, but I'll give it a shot too.

Nebraskans are fiscally conservative by nature. So our Big Money People are reluctant to 'play the game' the way Oregon, Ohio State, LSU, and CFB's other biggest NIL spenders. It's frustrating Rhule who wants to bring in (and keep) the best.

OK, I'll try another analogy-
Elderly couple spend $140 a week on groceries. Wife insists on doing all the cooking, despite constant offers to help from the husband. Wife doesn't follow written recipes, it's all from memory. Unfortunately her memory isn't what it used to be and ingredients and cooking time snafus result in a lot of unsatisfactory meals. She says it's a money problem that can be fixed by increasing the budget to $200/week.
We are currently in the "haves" half of the B1G. But we don't play like an above average B1G team.
What do you think our chances of beating Washington would be if AC was out and TJ didn't get to the field until the 4th quarter? Danny K is a good guy but he hasn't passed TJ and AC is way, way ahead.
This talk of poaching is midseason fear-mongering.
I could be wrong, but I'm not.
