Sunday Morning Thoughts - Post Oregon

The last two weeks were painful but if you step back you can see there has been improvement. The past several years against teams that were on our level or below us (Rutgers, Maryland, Michigan State, etc) we either lost those games or squeaked by. This year we are beating them by double digits. Against the superior teams (Indiana & Oregon) we lost by three points and had positioned ourselves to win. Yes you can argue Oregon is not at their typical level but they did have better talent across the board after years of elite recruiting. It sucks Rhule is not a one year miracle worker like Cignetti or Chesney at UCLA but at this point in the season we have shown improvement. Now if we stumble down the stretch and have a horrible November like the past few years we will need to revisit this thought.

A side note that yes Dylan got the victory over us but I think we can all agree Colandrea was still an upgrade. If Dylan was at the helm against Indiana or Oregon I think those are the same blowout losses we endured in the past. Colandrea's scrambling abilities have kept us in these games.

Great post ATX. Agree on all points.

The D got worn out 4th quarter - no doubt about it. Some of that is on the D for not getting stops - but the offense did nothing to help. Honestly Oregon didn't rotate their front 4 hardly as all - if we had been able to run the ball at all we would have worn them out.

One more thing I want to mention - the Archie kneel. THAT one play swung momentum back to Oregon as they got a FG and followed that up with a drive to get another FG......if we had put them back on their side of the field and kept playing D as we had all night - Oregon likely enters the 4th quarter with no points.

2 sure way to lose B1G games:
- Unable to rush the ball
- Score under 20 points

Despite that we hung in the last 2 games because our D is playing at a high level. Just need a bit more juice from Special Teams and the Offense.
Remember Clownahan used score quickly and put the D back on the field with NO rest

Let's not pretend this is the same Oregon team that everyone thought they would be when they were ranked preseason top 3 with a potential #1 pick at QB. It's not. It's not a silver lining to lose to a "name" team starting a terrible #3 QB. Oregon played the whole game to get to the 4th quarter and let Nebraska do what it's done recently, fall apart. It was a loss that frankly we all saw coming during the game. Most fans were too busy wondering how many times they could call Raiola fat boy or find some meme about him while we watched him manage two 15 plus play drives to win in the 4th quarter because he has coaches that put him in situations to win.

2 weeks in a row better head coaches just waited, made slight adjustments and watched a head coach and coaching staff melt down at the end.
