Emmit leaving too?

Word has it that Emmett will not be going to the bowl game as he is preparing for the NFL combine. I really don't blame him especially if it's a family issue. Whatever is best for him and his family Great kid he will be missed. If What I heard was true.

* Emmett

And yeah, if I could say anything to Emmett Johnson, it'd be the following:

Emmett,

Thank you so much for your time as a Husker and all the hard work you've put in. I hope you do decide to enter the NFL draft for next year and I do not begrudge you at all for opting out of the bowl game if that's what you decide. Whatever the future holds for you, I wish you nothing but the best and hope you have an amazing NFL career and life after you decide to hang up your cleats for good.

Sincerely,

Husker99

If Emmit is a first or second round projection I say Thanks for your time here, good luck in the NFL. If he is a third or fourth round projection it is a personal choice. If he is later than that I would advice him to return. Whatever he does I thank him for his great year.

If EJ is not chosen in the second round, then the NFL doesn't know what a great RB looks like (but I thought the same thing about him being a sure-fire finalist for the Doak Walker Award.)

As a point of reference, Ameer Abdullah was drafted in the second round as the 54th overall pick.

Dr. I think EJ has the NFL talent. He runs north and south, doesn't spent time dancing. He is a good receiver out of the back field, and can be a 3 down back. But I am not an NFL talent evaluator, event though I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express.

Ok I thought this was old news. Been mentioned on other threads that if he leaves he's turning pro. Apologies if you hadn't seen those posts.

In all honesty, I can't imagine his NFL value rising much higher with another year in Lincoln. RBs take a lot of punishment and he only has a few years to play pro football before the door closes.

I too would not blame him for opting out of the bowl. However, he was about 80% of our offense today. Bowl outlook is grim if this is what happens.

His biggest issue to the NFL may be top end speed. I think his draft stock wasn’t helped when he got run down by two guys then tackled at the goal line.

Context, he had a terrific run the play before. On that long run you mentioned, it was the 2nd play in a row he toted the rock and it was clear on that play, he was running out of gas as he got near the goalline. More of a conditioning issue than speed issue.

I think he should skip the bowl game and prep for the draft. His one ding is going to be lack of blazing speed because NFL teams want that home run threat at RB......and the perceptions speed = success. But he'll be successful given a chance - vision, cutting ability, ability to break tackles....all elite.

And he'll fix this as he finds a NFL type trainer for combine tryouts.

The speculation, prior to yesterdays game, was he was a 3rd day pick. I would believe his performance yesterday easily bumped him to a day 2 pick and with that he shouldn’t risk a bowl game injury, especially since we won’t be getting as good a bowl now.

But I expect we may be without multiple players who will transfer out so who knows who will be playing for us!

Sadly, it's the end of the Bowl Game Era. Do away with this post season absurdity and have a 16 team playoff and that's it. Probably 30% of the players that earned their 7–8 win record no longer participate in the bowl games.

That makes sense, Hunch, but it's never going to happen for two reasons: 1) the tradition; and 2) the money.

Money talks Doc. That's for sure. I'm just wonder how long it will take fans to realize "If I want to watch the young guns and future of this program I will wait 3-4 months and go to the Spring game. Why waste my hard-earned traveling out of town to see our freshman play a scrimmage."

Check that...I guess traveling from Lincoln to Tampa in January isn't such a bad idea!:D
