Voice of the Huskers?

They tell me it's the off-season. To me, it's gardening season, so I'm good either way. Just recognize that you old codgers don't want to hear me waxing poetically about zucchini, corn, etc.

I stopped reading when I saw waxing. :-)

I think they should hire Kent Pavelka.......kidding. What is Jim Rose doing????

I'll listen to pregame sometimes. Depending on how busy I am that day, it might be 2 hours it might be 15 minutes. I like to have the radio on - via phone or computer and turned down just to listen to reactions after a play has happened. It's always 30 seconds, at least, behind where I live when I watch TV.

But with every game on TV, the radio broadcast doesn't get listened to much, I mean, as I get older I seem to be going back to things from the past. So maybe I start listening to the radio broadcast and watch the TV in silence and synch them up. Or just watch later.

Heck I can remember in 2001 listening to the Baylor game outside on the radio while planting trees. Of course, that was also when the local Nebraska club paid to have the game broadcast on a local station.

I mean, I do miss those Dorothy Lynch and Cornbore pesticide commercials when listening to the radio.
I will bet it gets listened to a lot more than you think. People still travel and now you can stream the radio stations on your phone if you are traveling out of state.

Here is my hiring criteria for the next Voice of the Huskers:

1) A top professional with a commanding/distinctive voice. I am FAR less concerned with past ties to Husker Football and/or the State of Nebraska as I am to their radio play-by-play abilities. Like the Head Coach, if The Voice of the Huskers is damn good at what he does, it won't be long before he becomes 'One Of Us.'

2) Passion. I'm not talking about the 'fakey' kind, I'm talking about the kind where you can tell the announcer absolutely loves what he's doing, which is calling Nebraska football games. When it's genuine, it's contagious.

I got an idea , let’s give Nebraska the media rights to read the on game chat from BHF live during games for the “color commentator “ :happy0188:

Off-color commentator would be more like it. LOL, that would be an absolute scream. Especially on those night games after we're all feeling no pain. The FCC might get a call or two, for sure!

Maybe. But since Nebraska joined the B1G, and even going back to our days in the Big 12, pretty much every game was/is televised. Even when traveling it is super easy to find a Buffalo Wild Wings or some other type of sports bar to go to and watch the game. I travel quite extensively for my job and I very often am watching a game from a bar, negating the need for listening to the game on the radio. And watching the game at the bar there is usually no audio, but that's okay, I don't need the play-by-play guy to tell me the formation or the result of the play, I can literally see it. And, I certainly don't need any color commentary to tell me that a QB is having a bad day or the weather is affecting the play on the field.

Why not merge Old School Blast From the Past with New School Artificial Intelligence?
We can resurrect Lyle Bremser’s golden play by play voice generated by AI. I would definitely start using my old vintage 60’s AM radio (still works great) again.IMAG1077.jpeg

Thats true but not everyone is lucky enough to be able to stop and watch the game. My son is an over the road truck driver and he has to stay on the road. Others are heading to weddings, funeral, or other family events. I would guess a lot of cars on the road on football Saturday have the game on.

Lol my dad had a one ear piece thing ( probably from the 70’s ) connected to a pocket radio ( am / jam ) that fit in his inside suit pocket and would have it in the entire wedding when we had to attend one during a games .
Damn inconsiderate people getting married during a husker game , what the hell is wrong with you !:fighting0056: ( I swear he said something like that :happy0188: )
