Holding on to our BIG RED Security Blanket

Throw that aside for a second, and I promise this isn't a political question at all: have you noticed a lot of people acting out of character for the last half dozen years or so? Possibly yourself included. I've caught myself a couple of times and had to step back and ask "where the hell did that come from?". Like people that are just typically happy-go-lucky all of a sudden showing a desire to be confrontational.
crazy , if its been going on for 6 years or so, its not out of character, its someone's true character coming out

I'm talking about one-offs or random changes, not necessarily consistent behavior.

I guess it doesn't really matter, just thought I would ask if anybody here had noticed the same thing because I've talked to quite a few people elsewhere that had. No biggie.

The problem is that social media and the news media have pushed us into filter bubbles where we are increasingly fed opinions that are in line with our own and cut off from opposing views.

So we have two big and some smaller camps where we are constantly told anyone who disagrees is some combination of stupid, crazy, and evil. And since fewer people all the time are capable of mature conversations about politics, there is no easy fix.

Let's see what happened 6 years ago? Mike Riley?

Honestly, it goes further back than that. IMO, it started when Steve Pederson changed the Husker culture with a West Coast coach hire. We haven't been the same since.

I loved Bo, thanks to TO, until Bo gave us a black eye and we had no choice but to remind him that no coach is above Nebraska ethics and values.

exactly what black eye was that?

Bo could have been the guy, that’s the frustrating thing. He was a victim of a conference change and being his own worst enemy. He definitely had peaked here. Couldn’t recruit good enough to not get blown out against good teams but a good enough coach to beat the teams he was supposed to beat. If he had more support athletic director wise, it’s possible that he could have taken us to a level higher than he got us to.

He might have been able to recruit good enough if he had been given the tools to recruit. Kind of hard when you start behind the 8 ball every year.

What black eye? You must have missed the dozens of media stories saying how could Nebraska hire such a crazed coach.

They MADE us a laughing stock for even letting him on campus if you go by their sentiment.

I definitely believe the problem was two fold. Bo didn't like to recruit (as SUHnami mentioned earlier) and he didn't have enough support/resources from the Athletic Director. I don't think they are mutually exclusive. Osborne came from a different generation and I'm not sure that he had a grasp on the changing landscape of collegiate recruiting. Eichorst was....well, he was Eichorst. His winning percentage in spite of this was rather impressive.

While it is true that Bo didn't like recruiting, recruiting wasn't his downfall.

All of us Bo-lievers who championed him getting the job back-in-the-day saw a coach with that all-important "it" factor. We believed that with TO's guidance, he could develop into one of CFB's elite head coaches.

But Bo's personal demons did him in. Instead of looking inward at himself and his program on ways to improve. He looked outwards at all the folks who, in his mind, were 'out to get him.' Such wasted potential.

As one who also wanted Bo hired after Callahan, I concur with the above. I also hoped that with T.O's guidance Bo could harness and focus that fire/intensity. Not excusing Bo's behavior at the end, but I would be willing to be that if we all knew the behind-the-scene of all the sh** Eichorst was doing to sandbag him, I'd be willing to bet most of of would have done something similar. I say that with the understanding that we'd be receiving millions from a contract buyout. So really, there was zero downside for him to do that. Cuz I think we all, by now, have heard many of the rumors how Eichorst and Perlman basically conspired to fire Bo, merely to bring in "their guy." They didn't care about the football program, they just wanted their guy Was be damned.
