I don't think he up and leaves if he's not going to get most if not all of that $100 mill.I wonder if that 100 million is "real". It could be tied in with so many incentives and non guaranteed money as to be worth considerably less.
Maybe he ends up with only 80 million.
Kids will have to pack a lunch
I realize it's one of those "we've ALWAYS done it" kind of deals, but if you're an AD who is paying millions of dollars to some gym rat to coach your college team, can someone here explain to me the motivation behind putting performance incentives into his contract.Numbers on Kelly/LSU have floated around - but it sounds like $9.5M base year 1 (and I am sure it goes up year over year) with incentives that push it well past $100M over 10 years. ... They are paying him right at what Saban makes with the potential for more based on incentives (I know Dabo's contract has some big incentives as well - as an example.....so pretty common on these top end contracts).
Don't trust the media to report the truth, they are in to big a hurry to report anything. He is right at 10 million per year, although its tough to live on that these days, sigh.Numbers on Kelly/LSU have floated around - but it sounds like $9.5M base year 1 (and I am sure it goes up year over year) with incentives that push it well past $100M over 10 years. He had a good year, and they are betting the farm next year will be a good one too. Without a Martinez pick, they would have one less winYeah, I don’t know how Mel Tucker’s agent pulled that off. That dude doesn’t deserve that kind of money, not even close. What he’s done so far there is impressive, but come on lol. Frost’s $5 million/year would be a huge steal if we were getting an ROI on the salary.
Paying that kind of money does not guarantee success. That's the problem with the escalated salaries. This is the first year Tucker had a really good season. Previous 3 were very average. Sound familiar? He could very easily "Scott Frost" from here on out. With all of ND's advantages, Kelly has taken them to 2 playoffs, only to get smoked in the semis in both of them. Franklin, Tucker, Shaw... no playoff appearances from any of them. Jimbo Fisher won an NC very early in his head coaching career then FSU regressed every year since, including a losing record before Texas A&M came calling. What has he done at A&M? A whole bunch of Bo Pelini type seasons. Most of these teams paying exorbitant salaries are not getting much bang for their buck. There are plenty of good coaches that can be had in the 3-5 million dollar range (that sounds absolutely ridiculous to even say!) that will get similar results to Franklin and Co.You know the problem I'm having with these coaches garnering 8 mil+, for the most part, haven't achieved squat.
So...how the F*** are WE going to get back to elite status w/o 1-paying a coach similar dollars, and 2-actually finding ANY coaches that fit the bill for getting us there in the 1st place, if all there is available are "also rans"?
Nebraska probably can't afford to up the ante to 12 mil/yr to get who?
But once they start having success, they’ll leave for a job making far more money. A school will benefit greatly if a successful coach wants to stay when they can make more elsewhere. SF would be the poster boy for this if the last 4 years hadn’t sucked so hard.Paying that kind of money does not guarantee success. That's the problem with the escalated salaries. Agree wholeheartedly. But what was that old investment commercial about "earning" it. How the hell did Fisher land the A&M job and that salary after a losing season at FSU?But once they start having success, they’ll leave for a job making far more money. also read that a 1.2 M loan for his new abode is part of the package, along with a couple other things that my brain didn't retain. Without a punt to the wrong side of the field that was returned for a TD there would have been no Martinez pick.He had a good year, and they are betting the farm next year will be a good one too. Without a Martinez pick, they would have one less win
I agree but the punt into left field occurred and the pick happened, ifs and buts don't count.Without a punt to the wrong side of the field that was returned for a TD there would have been no Martinez pick.
I think the point was that the wrong sided kick was the biggest error/turning point, and would have been most easily avoided.I agree but the punt into left field occurred and the pick happened, ifs and buts don't count.
I understand all that but all it did was tie the game, the pick ended our OT effort.I think the point was that the wrong sided kick was the biggest error/turning point, and would have been most easily avoided.
Yeah, I'm surprised we haven't heard anything as I thought Doc H (may have been another poster) had posted that things were being finalized. Probably a SNAFU that needs to be worked out.Okay how about some announcements already. My patience is wearing thin.
A SNAFU named Brian Kelly and a big-money offer to be LSU's new OC.Yeah, I'm surprised we haven't heard anything as I thought Doc H (may have been another poster) had posted that things were being finalized. Probably a SNAFU that needs to be worked out.
