WHY oh WHY Shotgun on 4th & inches?

Martinez is just as bad as I feared, but I had no idea how incompetent Frost was. Today was a doozy. I'll watch the Nebraska versus OSU massacre, but that's it.

Any further fan support of a Frost led team is an abominiation of Husker nation and all the traditions that this program was built upon.

You imagine the worst possible outcome of a coaching hire, add a few more losses of misery, and you have Scott Frost. I have absolutely no doubt that I would do a better job as coach than Frost.
Everyone has a bad day, but ya know, Frost could have experimented with Smothers or Haarberg though and sat AM

Not sure it was on the 9 yd line seemed like it was shorter but what ever, I hate the spread the way Frost runs it and will say in my opinion it will not work in the B1G. Frost wants a Duck O or UCF type of offense and he is just in the wrong conference. AM should work under center but thats not the way they draw them up, what do I know?
I went back and looked and I was incorrect. The LOS was at the 11 yard line .

OK I wont argue, but it really addresses my point about the Ducker Spread. He caught the pass from the center at the 4 or 5 yd line and then stepped back into the endzone where he was trapped and fllung the ball into galaxy to keep from getting tackled and it was intentional grounding. Game set match

And the thing is if Yant doesn't slip this thread doesn't even happen.
By lining up 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage as opposed to a few inches you create a bevy of opportunities for things to go bad.
If we had taken the huge natural advantage this thread definitely would not exist.

That's the problem though. Frost anointed AM as his guy and his stubbornness has kicked in. His stubbornness is going to cost him this 5M gig. Talk about cutting your nose off to spite your face.
I really think that the treatment Frost got when he came home from Stanford is the issue here. Of course Pelini was the same with Martinez 1

Using NFL data from 2015-2019, QB sneaks on 3rd or 4th down with 1 yard or less to go has a 89% success rate. Giving the ball to the HB lower the success rate to 66%.

I would like to know and I wish someone would ask Frost what it is about this offense that is so hard to execute?

This is an onion of a question and prolly deserves it's own thread. You only have these guys for a few years, if they're stars they leave early for the pros. If not, you get them for 4 or 5 years. If it takes 3 or 4 years to learn your system, you need nothing but upperclassmen playing. With scholarship limits, that's impossible. Your system must be understandable quickly, where freshman are functionally literate with your schemes. I suspect Yant is an outlier a bit, but, he should know at this point left from right.
I was told that most instructions in the workplace are designed to be understood by someone with an 8th grade education. But everyone at the company has a high school diploma or better? The idea is to make sure information is understood. It is a tenet of life that the person giving the information is responsible for making sure it's understood. If you don't understand what I'm saying, it's up to me to rephrase it, use an analogy, ask what don't you understand and figure out how to communicate.
Coaching is teaching. All these kids are teachable. Some get it faster than others, but, everyone needs to be taught.
Sometimes I think the "culture" problem is a teaching problem.
If you're trying to teach calculus to 8th graders it's not their fault if they don't get it There's a lot of math between adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and calculus. You gotta Factor that in (don't forget to factor, heheh).
Anyways, I'm rambling on, maybe others can peel this onion better than me.

I hate to be super critical of an amateur, collegiate athlete, but I must say it: that play was completely inexcusable.

AM is a four-year starter. He should NEVER have entered the end zone. Your number one goal is to stay out of the end zone and keep possession of the ball. That's more important than gaining yardage on a single play.

He also takes forever to make reads, and more than half of them are wrong. Like TA before him, he'll have someone open for a nice 11-yard, drive sustaining gain and he'll throw 30 yards down field to someone in double coverage.

I can see that stuff in year one and year two, but year four? QB coach Harry Potter needs to be let go at year's end. Replace the QB coach with a Special Teams coach. AM has not grown, and the OL doesn't seem to improve much at all. If those two coaches aren't replaced, I see little hope for improvement.

Even if we beat Purdue, the future is murky with the last 3 opponents.

I've asked this question at least once a season for a decade or more. WHY WHY WHY would you snap the ball back to the 5 yard line when you're fourth and INCHES??!??! With a QB of Martinez's size and strength, a QB sneak is a NO-BRAINER.

I'm no D1 head coach making 6 million, but I'm pretty damn sure I'm right about this one.
We need men not boys inside the 1 yard line. This is not the Nebraska I followed since 1969. Feels similar to Callahan and Riley with worse results. This team and its coaches are boys among men in the Big 10.

I believe the B1G invited Nebraska because they looked at our heritage and power football tradition and thought we'd be a good fit. But ironically, we've spent our first decade in the league acting like we joined the Pac 12 instead.

Frost would be a much better fit in the Pac 12 or Big 12 IMHO - but he is closer to Mike Riley than Pete Carrol in terms of skill level as a coach......he'd win games but not win championships.

Here’s my question— with the rule change that allows players to push the ball carrier, why not line up two tackles behind the ball carrier and ensure he ends up in the end zone
