The Heart of Huskerland, Lincoln, NE
We may not know the opponent's identity yet, but here is what I envision for our first pandemic home game...
  • The Huskers leave their traditional 'night-before-a-home-game' home, the Cornhusker Hotel and are still greeted by hundreds of mask-wearing fans as they board their buses to the stadium.
  • When the buses arrive at the stadium, a throng of mask-wearing Husker fans cheer them into the stadium to the sound of (real or taped) the Marching Band playing "There is no place like Nebraska."
  • Before the players run out on the field, Tailgaters on the West and East sides of the stadium chant "Husker! Power!" to rockets shooting off.
  • We still get the sound of the Alan Parsons Project as the players leave their locker room. The B1G gets agreements with TV to show the home team's pregame video (sans commentary) so Husker fans at home get the full Tunnel Walk treatment as if they were inside the stadium.
  • Hey, how about a Huskervision attempt at the nation's first 'virtual' wave? :)
If we're going to play football in a near-empty stadium, let's be creative and have some fun with it and show the country that Nebraska fans can still be counted on to 'bring it!'

I'd rather pick turnips than act like having a crowd outside the stadium is OK but a crowd inside isn't.

Easier to socially distance at a tailgate - until everyone gets loaded and starts singing Sweet Caroline while doing a Rockettes style line leg kick

Most other schools have their tailgating on campus so the universities can shut them down. Most of NU tailgates are on private property. I wonder what the city of Lincoln is going to do.

Such a marvelous day, is Warren still employed?
More than any of the other conferences, the B1G is controlled by its collection of University Presidents, even more so now that Jim Delaney's retired.

It was the Presidents who made the initial decision, and it was the Presidents who misjudged the push-back they'd receive afterwards. They assumed everybody was eventually going to follow suit. Once it became clear that the other Big Dawg powers were going to play come hell or high water AND (most importantly) bring in the big TV bucks for their schools, the Presidents found themselves between a rock and a hard place with no real choice but to relent.

Anyone who thinks this was all on a league commissioner in his first six months on the job doesn't understand the wonderful world of academic leadership in colleges and universities.

Tailgate parties are not going to be allowed.

As far as Warren, he obviously didn't have the clout that Jim Delaney did. Almost sounds like the situation with Osborne and Perlman was. Perlman wanted the power, but misjudged what it would take and ended up bounced out on his behind. Some of these other presidents might be in for a rude awakening.

You know Buddy, I have told you this before I know but sometimes your insight into things is actually so freakin spot on that I shake my head and wonder if your not some sort of super secret mega agent James Bond 007 guy with listening devices that actually look like a fly on the wall....about things that I know the truth behind because of friendship with people involved and I know for a fact you were not in the room at the time some of this crap happened....it truly scares me a little sometimes....

Good one .....you get 5 Gold Stars for this one buddy and that's the most I ever give out !

I doubt they have any clout off of campus. We tailgated at the National Guard in Lincoln and we know they dont control that post

Having no fans in the stands is so authoritarian it disgusts me. If people want to sit in the stands and accept the slight risk of contracting COVID-19 (driving to the stadium is much more dangerous) and actually accept the remotest chance of being hospitalized or dying from COVID-19, then we don't need our administrative moms to make that decision for us.

Here is what you call a game of football without fans in the stands. . . A CLOSED SCRIMMAGE! But as they say, half a loaf is better than none.

Football games are so influenced by momentum, some of which comes from fan reaction (aka home field advantage calculated at 3 points) to plays, I wonder how players will instinctively react to the "sounds of silence".
