Husker players file lawsuit

I will go out on a limb here and guess that nothing comes of any of this.

Oh, I'd be willing to bet that the conference announces a schedule this weekend and files a response with the court on Monday saying "we are playing a season so we don't have to provide documents now".

That's my guess as well.

It irritates the snot out of me because it makes UNL look whiney as hell. Not a good fit, IMO.

tOSU could get by with it with their recent record. We don't have the panache, as our record shows, to be doing this crap.

UNL gaining some respect, the Big 10 looks bad.

In response to lawsuit, Big Ten reveals 11-3 vote in favor of postponing football season

In a court filing responding to the Nebraska players’ lawsuit, the Big Ten revealed that there was indeed a vote held by the conference’s presidents and chancellors. The result was an 11-3 margin in favor of postponing fall sports. According to multiple reports, the three universities that opposed the decision were Iowa, Nebraska and Ohio State.

It chapps my backside that Michigan and Penn State administrations continue to take a giant dump on B1G athletics. I get Northwestern and Indiana voting to cancel. But Michigan?? Even faced with a complete revolt of all Michigan donors of significance their President is sticking to his guns.

So, all we needed was three other schools to join us and the conference wouldn't have reached the 60% threshhold needed for approval to cancel (postpone) the season. I can't believe Penn State, Wisconsin, and Michigan didn't join us.

Isn't this lawsuit based on the idea that there was a "contract" and the players feel their contract was "breached" because they can't play? Do these players sign anything with the B1G? Isn't there "contract" with the University that they are playing at? If so doesn't this lawsuit have to be against DONU not just B1G.

Seems like they had 3 complaints and 2 of them are related the my questions in the above paragraph and the 3rd is no longer valid if there was a vote which I would bet there was not that they told the court there was.

I'm doubtful that the affidavit that was filed will impress the judge. I haven't read it yet but apparently it comes from doctors associated with the conversation, not the league itself or its members.

It's a civil case. You establish the court's jurisdiction, establish a greivance, present the defendant's cause, assert discovery, and then demonstrate harm caused. Then you attack, attack, and attack some more. The fact is the league got shook by the mere initial move speaks volumes.

If there is a crease Flood will find it. Almost makes me forget he's a Notre Dame alum;). Yeah, I know he went to Nebraska for his law degree so we have that.:)

I know the coaches all wanted end of September - essentially one week after SEC - but I am guessing to get the buy in they needed to have these rapid tests available - they had to settle for later in October (or that was as early as the Admin people would agree to).

Oct 21 probably means 8 games? Oct 7 - you could get 10 games in.

One other note - Iowa has an outbreak so bad they shut down all sports for 2 weeks - so not sure they will be able to participate in whatever is decided. That said - Iowa State is just as bad and decided NOT to shut down football because dadgumit we got a game in a few weeks.

Seems strange that some of you fine folks get so upset about what a couple of talking heads spout out. Seriously, who cares what they think?

Acknowledge and move on.

I should not care - but the reality is Nebraska lead the effort to get the B1G to play football. And appears to have won the war - these 2 dimwits tried to suggest we be kicked out of the conference. I will give tOSU props as well as they pushed hard to change course. But without Nebraska it does not happen IMHO. Kicked out of the conference? We probably saved the conference from itself.
