Some Husker sunlight shining thru the clouds

It's hard to know how things will play out. I'm sure there are things that will unfold that we can't know right now, but Dr. Fumble's reasoning seems solid to me right now. In fact, it could help us more than programs that are flush with talent, and experience, right now. I hope so.

I think not playing is stupid and shows how weak we are as a Nation. I think a virus is out there no matter what we do.

People seem to think that if you object to our country being scared into insanity by a virus (shutting down businesses, schools, sports activities) that somehow you are making it political. But it is not political at all. It is about perspective and proportion. Athletes 18 to 22 years old are strong and healthy and are at the very smallest of risks from any virus. Just like the flu, they could become sick and miss some practices, but their recovery is usually quite rapid. Many may have the virus and never have any symptoms at all. The studies suggesting that asymptomatic people can spread the virus are weak, contradictory and inconclusive.

I have no objection to taking sane precautions such as thorough cleaning and disinfection of facilities, social distancing and mask wearing, if that makes people feel safer. But this has gotten far out of control and the unintended consequences of these shut downs and activity stoppages are doing serious damage to our nation and our psyches. And people are losing their jobs and livelihoods. The economic impact for Lincoln and other university cities is very large and significant. The BigTen decision to not play football and other fall sports is symptomatic of the unscientific knee jerk reactions of the panicked masses.

I think this ruling is HUGE for a rebuilding, lots-of-underclassmen, program like Nebraska’s.

Do you agree?

You may be right...If they stay committed. The Virus isn’t going anywhere soon and there’s no vaccine. Even if there is...There’s no way to prove right away that it’s 100% effective. I highly doubt spring ball happens...What’s the difference between playing now or waiting? If I’m a highly rated recruit...I’m not looking at the BIG TEN or PAC12 right now.

Vaccines are never 100% effective. I heard a medical expert interviewed who said a good vaccine is about 70-80% effective. No one is likely to "cure" COVID-19. It will be around this time next year and most likely for years to come. Improvements will come when the medical community knows more about how it spreads and how if affects the human body. It won't be nearly as widespread and therefore life should return to whatever normal has become.

All this talk of starting a season in January is laughable. It fuels speculation that this decision is related to the presidential election and not the science that Warren and others on his side swear they embrace.

We have had SarsCOV viruses for several years (maybe longer). They mutate and change constantly. This one was particularly hard on people with weakened immune systems (the sick and elderly). Modern medicine treats diseases and symptoms and rarely provides a cure. One of the reasons that cases are rising and hospital stays and deaths are declining is because 1. the virus is losing its contagion because of herd immunity and 2. because doctors are treating it better and more efficiently than they did 6 months ago.

The decisions to not play football or close businesses should not depend on what virus is prevalent during any given period of time. Life is risk.

They not only make people feel healthier (not safer), these things keep people healthier. As opposed to making people feel healthier--there are enough documented cases of what happens when people are wearing masks and come into contact with COVID-19 infected people, versus those who were not wearing a mask to say that.

I understand that you are a liberal and I won't go there with you. Believe what you like. But I'm more interested in how these decisions by the BigTen impact Nebraska football. I care not about your liberal political leanings. GO BIG RED

Like Uenth, I wear a mask in public places and social distance. Since we're in the midst of a deadly pandemic, I don't do it to make a political statement, I do it because it's the common sense thing to do.

If that opinion tags me as a liberal, I'll have you know I'm a life-long Husker 'POUND THE ROCK' Guy so my hardcore Conservative credentials should be beyond reproach. :)

By all means, if you want to wear a mask in public or in your car, do so. I judge you not. Here in Colombia, I wear a mask any time I'm out and about and particularly if I am in a store where it is mandated. When I go on my daily bike ride through the city, I put the mask on my chin. Here I have no expectation of freedom. If a policia or other authority tells me to put my mask on my nose and mouth, I'd have to do it. Perhaps someday we can have a double blind scientific study on the value of wearing or not wearing a mask. So far, all we have is the opinion of so called "experts".
