COVID-19 in Central Nebraska

I'm tired of fear-mongering (on both sides, this virus is not extinction level but bad enough to warrant chilling out for a bit). Waving our hands and saying "deep state! Big pharma!" while listening to New Age nutbags like Rashid Buttar does nothing but cause confusion and misinformation.
Last thing we need is confusion and misinformation on any side.

My big concern is that things are going to be opened too soon and we'll be back to square one. The economy damn sure cannot take that.

I take back any possible positive feelings about GI being through the worst of COVID-19. CNHD director said in her briefing today that the new system is having a problem getting tests back and when they get caught up, she expects a significant increase in the numbers. Damn.

Well... she sounded credible. That was a solid rebuttal. Too much fake need out there.
Who's to say that she isn't credible? She says one thing, somebody says the opposite......

There is a fine line between ignorance and believing a conspiracy "theory". The truth generally is found on that line. I'm a very analytical person and wait to say anything until I'm pretty sure that 2 + 2 =4, but I'm to the point that to me it's obvious that she is much more credible in her allegations than the opposing side in their dismissal.

You have an excellent point there. Never heard of her before but there is alot of he said she said going on. And besides what happened to "we must believe all women." I guess that mantra crashed and burned about 4 weeks ago.

Ah yes, I can always count on you to try and go "political" -- I'd love to rebut this because there are many good reasons why this particular woman is not to be believed. If I listed those reasons, then you would be screaming "Uenth is going political" so I will just zip it and try to leave this thread about COVID-19 in Central Nebraska. I'm asking you to please, please, please do the same.

In case you've forgotten, I'm living with this Baby Poop every day. You are back golfing and I'm guessing life is returning to normal. I can't say that.

To me, the red flag in the claims trying to discredit her was saying that she's anti-vax. She was asked point blank if she is and didn't just say "no", she explained why she is in favor of vaccines.

I have not forgotten Uenth. And I hope all is well with you and your familia. It's mighty presumptuous of you to assume Covid 19 is somehow effecting you more than others. The pandemic is nationwide. I believe you are a stay at home semi-retired seamstress/quilter. I am a government employee who interacts with the public on a daily basis. I wear the PPE provided and take all the ever changing necessary precautions. If you knew what I did for a living I'm sure you would not trade places with me. The anxiety many people are feeling is self imposed. I choose not to live my life in fear.
Golf is a hobby of mine and the perfect escape from the everyday grind. It is also the perfect social distancing activity and our governor chose to slam the door shut on a perfectly safe hobby for 6 weeks for no other reason than "I can."
I apologize for interjecting a sophomoric political jab. The video had a lot of info I am not going to attempt to verify because frankly, I don't care. What I did see were several doctors make the claim that keeping otherwise healthy people at home scrubbing themselves with disinfectant 24/7 is only exacerbating the problem, and I agree.

Peace

You're correct. It's not helping at all.
People in the areas can find out, but folks working there need to know, is this dangerous work, really dangerous work?

You can get county numbers, but broken down has its own help

Thought I would share the most clear minded sensible comment I have seen in two months. JMO...well, and whoever authored the comment of course.

In actuality, this COVID virus will join the pantheon of other viruses that come and go with the season. We are not going to see its extinction. It is part of our biosphere and our environment forever to which the human species has no choice but to adapt. Like all of the seasonal viruses, (quite a few of which have no vaccine), some will come in contact with it and not have symptoms. Some will get mild to moderate symptoms like the current seasonal outbreaks. Others will be affected more fiercely and sorry to say some will have complications or underlying conditions that will take their lives. We will not shut down the country each COVID-19 season. We will have crowds. We will gather as normal. We will see it no different than any other risk we take on a daily basis to breath the air, drive our cars, go to work, shake hands with those we meet or hug the ones we love. Similarly, in this one persons opinion for what it is worth, we will look back at what we did in the spring and summer of 2020 and with hindsight wonder why we damaged ourselves, our economy, our place in the world and our societal relationships. Just one man's thought....

It aint going away. Some can/may hang on til a vaccine, but our very livelihood wont.
I tell my daughter, the world sucks right now, so now is the time of second chances, when she's upset at her spouse, her friends, same thing I told my son.

We all need those second chances, for others and ourselves, because, the world sucks right now.

Somedays it doesn't seem like I'm very stay at home. Friday, did an early store trip, came home and showered, put on clean clothes and then ended up having to run to 3 businesses in search of padded mailing envelopes (I sell vintage patterns on eBay and finding padded mailers is becoming a problem -- I guess the manufacturer's have switched production to other more essential items).

Semi-retired is not real accurate right now because I'm upholstering a boat, ala Husker colors so now my title is seamstress (not much of that going on)/quilter (not enough hours in the day to quilt as much as I'd like)/upholsterer extraordinaire (Husker boats are rightously fun).

I did not mean to imply that I had more COVID-19 lock down misery than anyone else but when you watch numbers in your town jump up daily, it does get under your skin.

Our numbers have been stagnant for 4 days now but the Director of CNHD is sure it's because we just are not getting tests back. If you look at the numbers tested by County, that jives beause ours are not reflecting the 1,500 tests done last week. Seems to be a bottleneck somewhere. I know it's giving a false sense of security because I've heard people saying they had thrown out their masks because "we have peaked" -- holy Baby Poop is that premature. When T. Anderson (CNHD) says we have peaked, ok, but not before then.

Just another day in paradise.

PS, I am happy you can get back out on the golf course. I know it's important to you.

You have my sympathies on many levels. Former gov't employee (Ft Lvn KS) for a gazillion years. I cannot imagine wearing PPE for 8 hours or more a day. I wear my mask a lot. Some days I wash, dry and wear 2 or 3 times a day. Monday I had my upholstery machine tuned up. Those machines don't get moved so the guy came over. Second person to come in our house since COVID reared its ugly head. Other guy was our HVAC guy doing PM on our AC.

I wasn't even sure I was going to be able to get the machine repair guy into our house as his wife is a cancer survivor and has done chemo so her immune system is non existent. I explained about all the reasons why I don't want hub to get this crap. Also, he and my oldest brother are rod run buds so that probably helped too. I assured him that I would wear my mask the entire time he was there. It was close to 2 hours all said and done wearing that damn mask. I had just got done walking the dogs so I'd already been wearing it for a little over an hour so it ended up being 3+ hours at one shot. I was already hot from walking the dogs and my glasses insisted on fogging up the entire time Ron was working on my machine. Sucked pretty badly but my machine now runs like a brand new machine so it was well worth it. Just made me wonder how folks can wear them for 8 + hours at a stretch.
