Mike Dawson replacement

I really wanted to ask this question once the hire had been made, but I'm going to be pretty busy this week, so I'm going to ask the question in relation to the coaches that have been brought up in this thread. You can pick one, or you can pick all, but who fits with this staff the closest schematically. It's a complicated question, but one that I'm sure Coach Frost and Coach Chin have struggled with.

It's not as simple as 4-3 vs 3-4 simply because of the variations of both. And considering that Chin's defense is considered 3-4 in it's attacking form for base, but also uses 4-3 a fair amount (he calls it multiple) which one ie. Coach Kool, Coach Albert, or even Coach Montgomery has the best resume' when schematic fit is factored in. I'm personally thinking Coach Kool, might fill the bill with his 4-3 base at Missouri, the sliding 4-3 at Miami, and the multiple 3-4 at Alabama.

Any thoughts?

He won’t come cheap, that’s for sure.

Copout answer, but I think HCSFs first criteria is looking at scheme so anyone who he considers wouldn't be too far off. It feels like the interview process will be of greatest importance to get to know a coaches personality and cultural fit.

Not a copout at all imo. The staff most likely will have studied scheme and technique before even interviewing so I think you are on to something here. None of the suggested applicants are newbies so...as the commercial says...."They know a thing or two because they've seen a thing or two".

I do think the interview will be important as well. There should have been a valuable lesson learned on the last staff about what happens when everyone is not on the same page.....schematically and culturally. Of course a strong "fountainhead" can eliminate most issues before the fester. I'm pretty sure that weakness is behind us.

I personally still hope though, that whoever is chosen fully understands the role of the D-line as it's envisioned by Scott and Chin. Whether it's two gap and hold the fort, or reading the gap, attacking, and expecting the MLB's to man up on O-linemen the D-line needs to KNOW what to expect......and what is expected of them.

If it is indeed Kul, it sounds like he's had good players wherever he's been.
I dont care if its Kul or Ktulu as long as they can coach.

Actually, Coach Ktulu would be pretty cool. Having a giant evil squid on the sidelines might be pretty intimidating for opponents.

I’d say scheme for certain but he MUST be a stellar recruiter. He needs to be the Coach Held of his position group.

If this turns out true, I see us getting very strong ,very quick, and I mean, youd better play your best game if your osu good.

Weve had a fair share of four star O linemen, not so with D line.
Now, for the most part, I think our coaching and recruiting choices have been better at the D line position than the O line, even though weve recruited 'better' there, but have shown very little developement there.

Apparently Saban told the powers at Alabama he was doing too much coaching coaches and not enough coaching players.......hence the canning. I doubt if they beat Clemson he cleans house - but he needed to do something given how bad that looked.

Hopefully his need to "do something" results in getting a great DL coach.
Saban cleaned house. 7 coaches gone including Cool.

Why? Why did Sabin clean house? Why this particular coach? What is/are his strength and weaknesses?

Saban is extremely hard to please/work for. It might have been because he didn't like getting his butt whooped by Clemson and a TFr QB who absolutely owned Bama. I wouldn't look any further than Saban is a pompous jerk who doesn't care about continuity of staff. He cares about one thing...himself. If NU had played in the National Title game and got the butt whooping that Bama did, I doubt Frost cleans house.

I'm a bit disappointed in HCSF right now. His schedule for this hire isn't matching up with mine. I want an announcement by close of business today!
