Super Official Huskers "How about that volleyball team!" vs Illini Game Week Thread.

I don't care what anybody makes, a grown man (likely drunk as hell) yelling "FU" to a 13 year old girl is absolutely appalling and completely out-of-bounds. My God, public discourse in our society has gotten incredibly crude and disgusting nowadays. No wonder this country's going to hell.

I completely agree

And now, on to a much more positive note, that was the best presser that Coach Rhule has had this year by a country mile. You couldn't ask for a better HC response to such a soul-shattering loss last Saturday night.

I think everyone would agree that Rhule can talk the talk, but come game time . . . . .

Fair enough, Doc. I mean that.

But I think the sticking point is that we needed to go thru the whole "soul-shattering loss" part, before we got to the "best presser" part.

I suspect our FG kicking and net punting + KO return/coverage explains a good part of how we got to 3 losses. Losing the TO battle BADLY to Washington was the cherry on top. Ultimately we don't make it easy on the offense (having to drive the field most of the time) and we know our FG kicking is bad so we have to play for the TD everytime we get close to the red zone. Yeah we crapped our pants at the end of 3 games in row - but we played well enough before filling the diaper - a little cleaner performance on ST and from the O would have allowed us to win those games......probably.

Sorry, Uenth, I strongly disagree.

I'm not sure I understand why you strongly disagree with me. I started off my saying "That should not have been said to his 13 year old kid" and added that it seems to go along with positions like his. I wasn't giving the dude a pass. Just that this seems to be commonplace in today's society. Then I said that is why Rhule is making the big bucks (and yes, I do think all the crap HC's have to put up with is part of why they are paid such large salaries) and that needs to keep his big boy pants on and keep his nose to the grindstone. So I must say that I am totally confused as to why you think I thought it was OK for this dude to be a jackass

If I misinterpreted your post, I apologize. What I heard you say was: "it should not have been said to his kid but..." The rest felt like you excused what happened as 'going with the territory of being a head football coach' so Rhule needs to 'put on your big boy pants' and 'suck it up.'

I agree with you, it should not have been said. What I strongly disagreed with was your further comment that such behavior "goes with the position." To that I say baloney. No father -- no matter what his profession -- should have to hear that an adult man cursed at his 13 year-old daughter because the idiot was mad as hell with something her Daddy did. Good grief, how does anybody do that? :banghead:

Sadly, I ask myself that question in reaction to A LOT OF THINGS these days.

I don't know how anybody does that. I'm a person who does not do that to my dogs much less people. I might think about it when I see people do dip squat things but mostly I keep it zipped. But this isn't new behavior (calling out coaches). Saying things to their kids probably is. But go back and read some of Dr Tom's remarks about remarks that were made to him and people walking up to Mrs. Dr Tom and even going to their front door (once when he was out of town). I know things like that, to a lesser degree, happened during his tenure so I do consider people's tantrums (for lack of a better word) as coming with the territory for a head coach (at least in Nebraska because we do tend to be a bit more focused on football, or so I've been told). In a perfect world, about 3/4 of what I see or read wouldn't happen and I would say, in all honesty, that our sense of civility has been declining for quite some time. I'm not particularly shocked about much of what I see or read. I will say again though that saying anything untoward directed to a coach's spouse or child is absolutely uncalled for. Keeping his nose to the grindstone meant concentrating on his HC responsibilities.

When we lived in Leavenworth, I had a pretty decent Avon business. I had one customer whose house I would not visit on the weekends, after school or during summer vacation because I could NOT deal with how she spoke to her children. She would call them MF'ers, tell them how stupid they were and how she wished they had never been born and more. I was stunned the first time I heard it, heard her do that a second time, came home and called child protective services and was told that was not anything they would investigate and decided I could not deal with it happening again. So, she would come, without her children and pick up her orders. She was one of those people who just shouldn't have had kids and her husband was an absolute piece of work. Not long before we left, she packed up her kids and moved to NY to shack up with some guy she met on the internet. Have no idea how she and her kids are doing. That was 25 years ago. I suspect it's not unusual parenting techniques (sadly) and CPS not being willing to get involved was criminal as far as I was concerned. Those kids would literally shrink down at least an inch when she would start berating them. Sad fact is the world has always had its share of jerks. We just hear about them more now as over the years people have become much more emboldened about saying these things.
