Halloween under the lights

Let me say this about the Washington game: I was a skeptical fan about the so-called "Blackout" game against USC last year. Truthfully, I was, "I'll believe it when I see it." But I was wrong. The game atmosphere was unlike anything I'd ever experienced before. It really was intimidating--aided by the fact the game was at night. It really gave the game a certified creepy vide. :)

But I had already resigned myself to a daytime 'Blackout' that, IMO, wouldn't have had the same vibe as last year's USC game did.

This night will be the perfect way for the team -- and all of us fans -- to get RE-JACKED again for the special season we've got going.**

** The thing I've had to remind myself listening to all the vitriol since the game is that the same folks calling for Rhule's head after these two tough losses are the same folks who confidently told us that even if the Huskers were better in 2026 with this year's schedule they were destined to go 5-7 or 6-6 at best.

5-7 and 6-6 are still on the table Doc. How did Nebraska fare against USC last year in that intimidating atmosphere? Wait...never mind. USC was ranked 23rd when they played. Question answered.

I don't know Doc. This smug response may have been a bit premature after seeing Illinois manhandle Oregon this afternoon. I said 5 or 6 wins this season is still very much on the table. What guaranteed wins do you see to finish out the season?

Guaranteed wins??? In CFB THIS season???

More so than ever before, you never know what'll happen from one weekend to the next.

FWIW, I feel good about the team going into our last five games

I wish I had your confidence Doc. I'm losing hope with each passing weak. I kind of like our chances against Rutgers, but it is the dreadful second straight road game. I see no guarantees going forward.

Why is it seemingly every team in the country is capable of pulling off the improbable upset except for one? There is one team that never, ever gets the job done.

Honest question. IF the Huskers finish 6-6 in Coach Matt's 4th season, do you still think he is the right man for the job?

I'm not Fumble, but I find that a very intriguing question. I'll go a step further. What if we end the season 5-7? Perish the thought but worse case scenario, 5-7 season. WTF does the AD do? What does he do if we finish 6-6?

Sucky bye-week convos anyway but both seem like valid questions. Slide back a game or finish the same as last year. What should the AD do?

My honest gut reaction is that nothing will change. Buyout is way too much and I'm doubtful big money donors are going to want to pony up yet again. For better or worse, Matt Rhule is DONU's HC
