Back to another long off season

I am sure in some sense that was hard to leave his alma mater but unfortunately they were on a sinking ship otherwise formerly known as the Pac-12 and someone threw him a lifeline and he took it.

I hope the off-season is long enough for the fans’ wounds from this season to heal, but not so long that the fans drink enough koolaid to predict a CFP appearance.

Having watched football all day today, some random observations and thoughts.
Was unaware C Thomas Howell, of Red Dawn and The Outsiders fame, was coaching Florida State. And Adam Sandler is slowly turning the Wisconsin program around. They beat Minnesota today.

On a serious note, I'm beginning to wonder if being a diehard fan of any college football team is worth the heartache. Either corrupt money or gambling is ruining this sport. No longer do teams get "home towned" by referees. They get "conference shafted." The bluebloods and money will be protected at all costs. Auburn got screwed all day by the refs against Bama, I guess to make sure Bama is still in playoff contention. Then I watch the Apple Cup or whatever the hell they call it and WSU was screwed by the refs in that one too. Washington at their own 48 with 40 seconds to play and a fantom personal foul "roughing the passer" is called on WSU to get Washington in game winning field goal position. Watch enough games and you realize this $h!t happens far too often. And what the hell is replay for if they still clearly make the wrong call after reviewing the play? Even the lowly Huskers were screwed by replay booth a few games ago.

The reason I bring up gambling being a factor is because it is so blatant now. In the old days it was very unusual but on rare occasions one of the play-by-play guys might hint that "some folks in the desert of Nevada" might be really interested in the outcome of a late meaningless touchdown. Now you tune into any telecast and the ticker at the bottom of the screen shows point spreads of every game coming up. I'm not knocking gambling. Heck I go to our local sportsbook and play a few 10- or 20-dollar games every week. I do believe those betting much, much more may be able to influence the outcome of games though.

Washington State had a chance to get an INT in the end zone and seal that game and they dropped it. I too have been watching a lot of games today and I guess it is good to know Nebraska isn’t the only team that craps the bed. Several teams had very Nebraska like losses today. Baylor and Auburn are two that come immediately to mind.

FWIW, it was really blatant in Nebraska's fourth quarter challenge of a referee spot of the football which didn't give us a first down late in the game.

The Huskervision replay showed that the ball was A GOOD HALF-YARD SHORT of where the refs had spotted it. Was it a first down? It was super-close either way. But since the refs had originally called it short, the official call stood.

But here's the mind-boggling part: Replay clearly showed the actual spot was less than an inch (at best) either way. Yet after Nebraska's challenge, the refs returned the ball to their original spot, plus the 5-yard illegal procedure penalty.

What was THAT all about??!? If you're not going to correct an obvious spotting error, why even have replay?

You left out that bad roughing the passer call in the 4th qtr against Wazzu

You know Pelini would have gone beserk

Auburn had that game won. Alabama converts a 4th and goal at the 31 for a touchdown.

Several teams had Nebraska-like losses, yes. But with all due modesty, nobody does it as consistently as we do :)
I saw that game last night and when the announcer said 4th and a mile, I said I'll bet they score the TD. They did. Why? Cause champions find a way to win.
